I’m 35-year-old professional footballer Lionel Messi. One of the greatest players of all time. Forward for Paris Saint- Germain. Captain Argentina national team. FIFA’s Player of the Year six times. Six-time European Golden Shoe for top goal scorer. Highest paid player in the world at $45 million a year. Married Antonella Roccuzzo at the Wedding of  the Century. Parents of three children.

That’s quite a magical wish. While you may be 35, you’re not close to being the world’s best footballer. But you can have your dream career and a life you love in football.

Let’s think about what you can do.“We live in St. Louis, America’s First Soccer Capital. I’ll keep playing for fun. And continue to coach our kids soccer team. I’ll learn more about coaching soccer by watching videos and hanging out at our CBC high school soccer practices and games.

I’ll volunteer at the St. Louis Youth Soccer Association. I’ll learn about other areas of soccer: nutrition, physical fitness, college soccer, the soccer industry, the World Cup. 

St, Louis CITY SC starts play in MLS next year. I’ll get a part-time job. Working in the concession stands. Or picking up litter at after games at Centene Stadium 

Action is all it takes to make your dream come true. Before you know it, you’ll have a career in soccer. 

You may never be the founder of the energy drink Red Bull and own four Red Bull soccer clubs like Dietrich Mateschitz.Or be worth $8.5 billion, but you’ll have a career in soccer that you love.

Now let’s get into action. Take out a pen and paper. Simply answer two questions: “What are my favorite things to do? and “What’s my dream career?”  Have fun. Remember it’s magic.
